1,773 Get NOIs With CRS As Low As 435 In New Ontario Tech Draw

August 1, 2019 In Canada Immigration News Articles

Ontario immigration issued Notifications of Interest to 1,773 candidates with Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System scores as low as 435 in a new Tech Draw.

The August 1 draw is the second and largest since Ontario announced the start of Tech Draws under the Human Capital Priorities stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.

In the first Tech Draw, on July 12, Notifications of Interest were issued to 1,623 candidates.

This was Ontario’s second Tech Draw since their introduction in early July and a total of 3,396 Express Entry candidates have now received invitations, or Notifications of Interest (NOIs).

Ontario is home to several of Canada’s major tech hubs, notably those in the cities of Toronto, Ottawa and Waterloo, and Tech Draws are designed to meet growing labour needs in the sector.

More than 80,000 tech jobs have been created in Ontario’s capital city, Toronto, alone in the last five years, according to the 2019 CBRE Scoring Tech Talent Report.

Under the HCP as a whole, Ontario has now issued 5,961 NOIs during 2019.

See below for full details of how HCP Tech Draws work.

Ontario announced it would be starting Tech Draws earlier in July, focused on six specific technology occupations:

  1. Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
  2. Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
  3. Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
  4. Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
  5. Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
  6. Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)

The draws are designed to address labour shortages in the technology sector in Canada’s largest province.

Candidates must meet existing HCP requirements (see below) as well as have work experience in one of the stated occupations.

Candidates selected from the Express Entry pool receive a Notification of Interest via their Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) account.

They then have 45 days to submit a full application.
