Express Entry Draw 135, 23 January 2020

The 135st draw for Express Entry permanent residence candidates happened on January 22, 2020, and was an all-program draw.

It has resulted in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points requirement for receiving an invitation to apply (ITA) to decrease 2 points over the minimum score as compared to the previous all-program draw on January 8, 2020.

Canada has higher admissions targets for 2020 and 2021 for the various programs managed by the Express Entry system.

The target for new permanent resident admissions through the three federal high-skilled programs is slated to rise to 85,800 this year and 88,800 in 2021.

Summary of the latest Express Entry Darw:

Draw Number: 135
Draw Date: January 22nd, 2020
Number of Invitations Issued: 3,400
Minimum CRS: 471
Program Specified: None
Tie-breaking rule: May 9th, 2019

What’s an Invitation to Apply (ITA)?

An Invitation to Apply (ITA) is sent to the immigration aspirants in the Express Entry pool who are selected by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). ITAs are issued on a priority basis when a draw is conducted from the Express Entry pool, meaning that only those with the highest CRS score will receive an ITA.

Each Express Entry draw has a cutoff minimum score: only those who are assigned a CRS score above or equal to the cutoff score will receive the Invitation to Apply. For those who have a CRS score equal to that of the cutoff score, candidates who have been the longest in the pool will receive the ITA.

Canada’s PNP streams

Nine Canadian provinces and two territories have what are known as “enhanced” PNP streams that are linked to the Express Entry system.

These streams — many of which have lower or even no CRS score requirement — allow participating provinces and territories to select Express Entry candidates and invite them to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.

Express Entry candidates who obtain a provincial nomination receive an additional 600 points toward their CRS score and are effectively guaranteed an ITA.
