Ontario’s First Tech Draw of 2020 Invites 954 Express Entry Candidates

 The draw was held on 14 January and issued Notification of Interest (NOI) to express entry candidates who have eligible work experience for Canadian provincial nomination applications.

The province of Ontario has sent these Notifications of Interest to candidates have submitted a profile in the Government of Canada’s Express Entry system and had Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores range of 460 to 472.

With a provincial nomination, score can increase to 600, and this puts a candidate high in the rank, and the challenges of getting the invitation to apply in the subsequent draw increase considerably.

Candidates got selection in this draw needs to have work experience in one of the targeted six specific technology occupations:

  • Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
  • Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
  • Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
  • Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
  • Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
  • Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)

In July 2019, OINP had made a Tech Draws in order to help Ontario the increasing the demand coming from the tech sector in the province. A number of major technology companies have their home in Ontario, and most of them are concentrated in Ottawa Toronto and Waterloo.

Eligibility to get in the Express Entry pool

To be for Tech Draw of ONIP, candidates need to have an eligible profile registered under the Canadian experience class or the federal skilled worker class. Both these categories are run by the Express Entry system by the Federal Government of Canada.

Candidates must meet current Human Capital Priorities Stream (HCP) requirements as well as work experience in one of the above-stated occupations.

The candidates that are in the Express Entry pool are given a score through the CRS depending upon a number of factors including the age, education, work experience that they have and proficiency in the language of French or English.

A candidate does not need to have a job offer in order to become eligible for the human capital priorities stream.

About ONIP Tech Draws

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program Tech draws are conducted through the immigration section of the province’s Human Capital Priorities, which allows the Federal Express Entry pool to be searched for candidates who meet the eligibility requirements of the OINP stream.

The primary objective of these draws is to find express entry candidates specifically who meet the eligibility requirements of the Human Capital Priority Stream and have at least one year of continuous paid full-time or part-time work experience.

NOC stands for National Occupational Classification, which determines skill level and skill type of any occupations.

Requirements for the Ontario Express Entry: Human Capital Priorities Stream

To qualify for nomination, applicants must have:

  • Ongoing valid profile under the Federal Express Entry system and it must be qualified for either the FSWP or the CEC.
  • Candidate must have a minimum work experience of 1-year of full time under NOC occupation level 0, A or B, in the last five years.
  • This work experience does not have to be continuous but must be obtained within three years prior to application.
  • Candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from any of Canadian university.
  • The applicant also needs to demonstrate language proficiency in English or French consistent with Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7.
  • The candidate also must be intended to reside in the province of Ontario.
  • All candidates must meet the Settlement Fund requirement for the Ontario Human Capital Priorities Section.
