PNP: Solution to Low CRS for Canada PR

Canada has been a favorite of migrants. With its doors open to immigration, many people are applying for its PR. To apply under the Canada Express Entry, the candidates need to score certain points. The point system is called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and is used to find the apt candidates to live in the country. The CRS draws are held every two weeks and based on the draw, candidates are accepted for PR.

This is an easy, fast and convenient process. But here’s the catch. What if your CRS score is low?

Here’s some good news for you!

You can apply for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) instead. All the provinces of Canada, except Quebec, have their own immigration programs. Through this program, they invite skilled and talented candidates to apply and nominate them for Canada PR. Candidates, even with low CRS scores, are accepted under this program as long as they meet certain criteria.

Who can apply for Canada PNP

The PNP is best suited for candidates who,

  • have the skills, education and experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory
  • want to live in that province, and
  • want to become permanent residents of Canada.

Do note that each territory has its own target audience and requirements. The provinces may target Students, Business people and skilled workers for a nomination.

How to apply for Canada PNP

The Application Process depends on the Province you are applying to. You will need to meet the eligibility requirements of the province. You can either apply using the paper-based process or by the online process through Express Entry.

Paper-Based Process:

As part of the paper-based process, the candidates need to meet the required criteria of the province. Once nominated, they need to submit a paper application for PR to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Online Process:

  • You can either contact the province or territory for a nomination. In case you are nominated, you can create/update your Express Entry profile and show proof of nomination.
  • Or, you can create a profile and mention your province of interest. If the province sends a ‘Notification of Interest’ you can contact them directly. If nominated, they will send the offer electronically, which you will have to accept.

Whichever process you chose, you will have to pass a Canada immigration medical exam and get a police certificate.
